Jarrow Formulas IP6 is a dietary supplement, containing 500 mg of inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) in one capsule, extracted in Japan from rice bran. The preparation supports the organism’s immunity and proper functioning of the cardiovascular system by the influence on the activity of NK cells and antioxidant activity. The product contains 120 capsules.

Inositol is a compound commonly called “vitamin B8”. However, due to the synthesis of inositol in the organism, mainly in the brain, liver and kidneys, it cannot be classified to the group of vitamins. As a phytochemical substance, inositol can be also found in plants, in the form of phosphates, and for its assimilation by the organism, the enzyme phytase is necessary. Inositol is used i.a. for the synthesis of secondary transmitters - IP₃ and DAG, which take part in transmitting signals and inducing cellular response. Moreover, inositol constitutes a precursor of hormones (TSH, GnRH), decreases hyperinsulinemia and it is helpful in restoring regular menstrual cycles in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It also demonstrates relaxing and calming effect.

Inositol hexaphosphate, also known as phytic acid, is the prevalent form of inositol phosphate, which can be found i.a. in grains and legumes. This compound has the ability to create insoluble complexes with cations of polyvalent metals, limiting their assimilability. For this reason, inositol hexaphosphate was until recently considered only an anti-nutritional agent. However, the ability to chelate provides it with antioxidant properties. Complexing of metals with prooxidative activity and blocking the Fenton reaction in the large intestine protects the organism from the harmful activity of i.a. hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anion radical.

Inositol hexaphosphate, along with the remaining inositol phosphates belong to signaling molecules. IP6 takes part i.a. in the repair and recombination of DNA, transport of mRNA from the cell nucleus to cytoplasm and moreover, it also influences the structure of chromatin.

Inositol hexaphosphate has confirmed activity preventing aggregation of platelets, regulating the work of heart and stimulating the work of neurons. Thanks to the ability to chelate calcium ions, it prevents crystallization of calcium salt and counteracts the occurrence of kidney stone. Moreover, preventive and therapeutic properties of inositol hexaphosphate are more and more popular in case of colorectal cancer.

Inositol hexaphosphate may stimulate the immune system. By increasing the activity of NK cells (Natural Killer), constituting the first defense line for the immune system, unspecific, quick immune response of the organism becomes facilitated. Moreover, thanks to antioxidant properties, inositol hexaphosphate strengthens immunity on the pathway of inhibiting harmful consequences of oxidative stress and free radicals.
