NAC has many uses and can help people suffering from many ailments such as mood swings, lung problems, sleep disorders, infections and oxidative stress conditions. It can even help you protect against flu. It has also been proven that NAC lowers inflammation in tissues. NAC can not only get into our body through the oral route, but also through inhalation. As you can see below, the supplement can be used for many different purposes.
NAC - Health benefits
1) Liver support
Many commonly used analgesics, such as Tylenol or Vicodin, contain a substance called paracetamol. Paracetamol consumed in large amounts may be toxic to the liver and may cause liver failure. N-acetylcysteine is commonly used to treat liver failure caused by paracetamol and significantly increases the patient's chances of survival.
It has also been proven that NAC can effectively treat liver failure caused by other factors, such as excessive alcohol consumption or environmental pollution.
2) Free Radicals scavenging
Free radicals cause oxidative damage that is harmful to cells and their DNA. By providing glutathione with the right parts of the body, NAC helps fight free oxygen radicals and prevent cellular damage. This can be particularly helpful if the cells have been exposed to lead.
3) NAC prevents and treats chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
COPD is a lung disease caused by long-term oxidative damage to important lung tissues. Damage causes inflammation of lung tissues. Inflammation, in turn, causes the airways to become smaller, resulting in shorter breathing and coughing. By supplementing glutathione in the lungs, NAC works to reduce oxidative damage and tissue damage. This, in turn, reduces the likelihood of developing COPD. The main form of treatment for this disease is Oxygen Therapy. It consists of administering to the patient additional oxygen in order to provide a normal level of oxygen to the blood. However, this additional oxygen also raises the production of toxic free oxygen radicals. The introduction of NAC will reduce the concentration of these radicals and enhance the effectiveness of the treatment.
4) NAC helps to treat chronic bronchitis
Chronic bronchitis is caused by inflammation of the bronchi. This inflammation is often caused by oxidative damage. Chronic bronchitis causes cough and increasing mucus in the lungs. NAC will reduce the symptoms in patients suffering from chronic bronchitis by limiting the amount of free radicals in the bronchi.
5) NAC can help to cure HIV
HIV is a disease that causes impairment of the body's immune response. It has been shown that high levels of NAC in the body can help prevent the reproduction of one of the varieties of HIV, HIV-1. This suggests that high NAC cells may be able to resist HIV infection. NAC can be a great supplement for patients who are infected and take other medications.
6) NAC can reduce inflammation in tissues
In addition to reducing the level of oxidative damage to tissues, NAC also reduces inflammation in tissues. NAC reduces the amount of many different proinflammatory molecules present in the body. Reducing these inflammatory states can reduce the symptoms of diseases and reduce the risk of various diseases. NAC also reduces inflammation after intense exercise, which helps those who do these exercises avoid too much pain. This can potentially improve the quality of life.
7) NAC can help in cancer prevention
NAC has also been shown to prevent many forms of cancer through several different mechanisms. Importantly, NAC causes apoptosis in cancer cells and prevents them from multiplying in stomach cells. It was also discovered that NAC lowers the number of cancer signaling molecules in the body, which in turn reduces the disease's potential for growth and spread. Finally, it has been shown that NAC can help cure cancer.
Ionizing radiation is often used to fight cancer cells. However, this radiation can often lead to the development of more cancer cells in healthy cells through DNA damage. NAC protects healthy cells from damage while allowing the death of cancer cells. This reduces the risk of developing another cancer during ionizing radiation therapy.
However, some studies show that NAC does not work well with some cancer therapies. Talk to your doctor before you start using NAC if you are on chemotherapy.
8) NAC can reduce insulin resistance
NAC has been shown to reduce insulin resistance in obese people.
High blood sugar and obesity cause inflammation of body fat. This phenomenon initiates a signaling pathway that ultimately leads to the destruction of insulin receptors. This leads to type 2 diabetes in obese people. NAC has been shown to lower the rate of inflammation in fat cells. This means that fewer insulin receptors are destroyed and cells become more sensitive to insulin.
It reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
9) NAC can protect against influenza
NAC has been shown to reduce flu symptoms and protect against this disease. NAC lowers the immune response of the body when the flu begins to develop. This reduces the symptoms experienced by the patient. NAC also prevents the flu virus from replicating in cells. Without the possibility of rapid replication, the virus is usually fought before it develops. One study showed that in older adults taking NAC, influenza developed only in 25%, while people of the same age who did not have NAC developed influenza virus up to 79% at the same time.
10) NAC can help with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease
Alzheimer is a neurological disorder that slows down memory and learning ability. Studies have shown that NAC can slow or eliminate cognitive loss in mice. Patients with Parkinson who take NAC experience a noticeable improvement in dopamine function and alleviation of symptoms.
11) NAC can help eliminate the effects of schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is characterized by an inability to understand reality and abnormal social behavior. NAC can work to minimize the negative effects of schizophrenia. The gene characteristic for non-human primates G27 is associated with the development of these diseases by enlarging the synapses in the brain. When mice were treated with NAC, their synapses were regulated, indicating that NAC may play a useful role in mental illness.
12) NAC can prevent addictions
Addictions include behaviors such as compulsive overeating, drug addiction and others. NAC can reduce or eliminate such behavior in rodents. A systematic review of research has shown that NAC helps addictions, especially cocaine and cannabis. NAC can also prevent such behaviors as pulling hair or biting nails. The effects were supported by the normalization of the stimulant neurotransmitter glutamate.
13) NAC can prevent depression and bipolar disorder
Depression and bipolar disorder are severe mental states that are becoming more common in today's world. The symptoms caused by these disorders can be significantly alleviated by NAC. NAC can also help improve the human ability to function during these disorders.
14) NAC can prevent obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
OCD causes social anxiety and compulsive behavior. NAC can help treat severe cases of these disorders.
15) NAC improves the functioning of the intestinal barrier
NAC treatment can help protect the intestines if bacteria develop in rats. NAC also protects against oxidative damage, thus improving the functioning of the protective barrier.
16) NAC improves bone regeneration
NAC helps improve bone growth and regeneration. It activates the differentiation of the osteogenic cell by interacting with other bone markers such as collagen and osteopontin. NAC accelerates mineralization and increases bone growth rate.
17) NAC can be a therapy for sleep disorders
NAC can help patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea, a disorder that involves the repeated occurrence during sleep of episodes of insufficient or complete lack of airflow through the airways. Patients who took daily doses of NAC improved the quality of sleep and decreased snoring to a greater extent than in the placebo group. Oral supplementation NAC seems to be a potential treatment for sleep apnea.
18) NAC in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
PCOS is a hormonal disease that causes menstrual problems and difficulties in getting pregnant. Clomiphene citrate, a drug used to treat this disease, seems to work only in 60-85% of women. NAC can potentially be taken as an alternative treatment for this disease.
19) NAC can help with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
ALS is a disease of the nervous system that causes the loss of voluntary muscular strength. It is an incurable disease. NAC can help ALS patients. In cell cultures, NAC prevents the degeneration of neuronal cells.
20) NAC can increase the chance of survival in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF)
CHF causes fatigue and intolerance of effort in the muscles. It has been proven that NAC relieves these symptoms by reducing inflammation and oxidative damage in the muscles. This, in turn, increases the chances of survival in CHF patients.
21) NAC can increase the survival rate in patients suffering from heart attacks
Patients suffering from heart attacks experience less undesirable cardiac effects after an attack when they take NAC. Patients who get NAC are also able to leave the hospital faster due to rapid regeneration.
22) NAC reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease
Cardiovascular diseases are often caused by oxidative damage to cardiac tissues. This can lead to strokes, heart attacks and other serious consequences. NAC can reduce these oxidative damage and the risk of cardiovascular disease.
23) NAC can help you recover from a brain injury
Brain injuries can be caused by drug overdose, brain ischemia (insufficient blood supply to the brain), head injuries and many other causes. Brain injuries can cause memory loss and cognitive functions. NAC can help you recover after such events and regain memory and cognitive functions.
24) NAC can reduce the risk of kidney disease
Oxidative stress in the kidneys can cause kidney disease or kidney failure. NAC protects against oxidative stress and thus prevents renal failure.
25) NAC improves fertility
Almost 15% of couples applying for a child are affected by the infertility problem and almost half of these cases refer to male infertility as the sole cause of the problem. NAC improves semen quality in some, but not all, studies. NAC also supports fertility in women with polycystic ovary syndrome and in the case of unexplained miscarriages.
Safety first!
I think that if someone uses many other supplements, one 600mg capsule is enough. The maximum dose of NAC has not been determined.
Usually, however, 800mg to 1800mg is recommended. NAC appears to be a safe substance with very few long-term side effects. However, this supplement may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation if it is applied orally. This preparation may also cause drowsiness, swelling of the lips, sedation if administered in the form of inhalation. NAC has a very unpleasant odor that makes it difficult to take. The supplement should be taken with food, regardless of time, but preferably in the morning.
