Winnie the Pooh is known by all children and every gourmand enjoys sweet honey. What else do we owe to bees? You will find out by reading this article.
Unrivalled bee pollen characteristics
Pollen is the male reproductive cells produced by the flowers. In addition to nectar, it is also the staple food of bees. The bees collect the pollen from the flowers by mixing it with a little honey or saliva to form a ball and transfer it to the hive. The pollen, in the part which does not endanger the life of the bees, is collected by the beekeeper using pollen traps. The collected pollen is then frozen or dried. This is quite precise and meticulous work, which is done by the most experienced beekeepers.
Why is it so important?
Bee pollen is a real vitamin bomb. It is a rich source of nutrients that the human body needs. It contains plenty of vitamins A, E, PP, P, H and B vitamins. Additionally, it contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats, organic acids and various enzymes such as:
- amylase - decomposes polysaccharides, occurs in pancreas and salivary glands juice
- invertase - decomposes sucrose to glucose and fructose
- phosphatases - alkaline, acidic, separate phosphate residues from the protein particle
- peroxidases - catalyse hydrogen peroxide oxidation of various substrates

Bee pollen is a real treasure trove of nutrients. Thanks to this it has many healing properties
Detoxifying - protects liver tissue from poisoning, and in the case of poisoning it facilitates the excretion of toxins from the body, additionally regenerates damaged liver tissue, supports the treatment of alcoholism, stimulates the production of antibodies, supplements nutrient deficiencies in poisoned cells.
Anti-histamine - supports the treatment of allergies, prevents the effects of allergies (hay fever, asthma).
Nutritional - in addition to providing us with valuable nutrients, it increases our appetite, speeds up our metabolism, increases the level of iron in the blood, lowers the level of bad cholesterol.
Antibiotic - it has antiseptic and antimicrobial effects, used in the treatment of respiratory and digestive system diseases, it is also helpful in fighting infections, it supports the treatment of constipation and diarrhoea, it is also used in the treatment of peptic ulcer and duodenal disease, it is beneficial for people after infarct conditions, with hypertension or atherosclerosis.
Relaxing and antidepressing - supports the treatment of depression and vegetative neuroses, has a relaxing and calming effect, reduces stress and nervousness, has a positive effect on the nervous system, increasing its resistance, and increases physical and mental capacity.
Additionally, bee pollen has a beneficial effect on the skin, has rejuvenating properties, improves eyesight and supports the treatment of prostate diseases. Therefore, it should not be missing in our diet. Pollen treatments are recommended to be applied 3 times a day, at least half an hour before a meal. For optimal effects, the pollen should be chewed thoroughly.
Bee putty (Propolis) - the whole pharmacy in the hive
It is a mixture of resin of trees and shrubs and bee saliva. It owes its name to the fact that it is used by bees to seal the hive. It was used in natural medicine already in ancient times, popular in Ancient Egypt, Persia and Greece. It is not diluted in water but is soluble in alcohol and acetone. Its colour depends on the plant from which it is obtained, but most often it occurs in yellow, brown or black.
Some people believe that the effectiveness of the putty is related to a large dose of nutrients that have a beneficial effect on the human body. Its composition, as well as colour, depends on the source from which it is obtained. It is made of about 300 substances, of which the most important are:
- phenolic acids and flavonoids - natural antioxidants
- sterols - regulate the functioning of hormones
- coumarins - dilate blood vessels, support blood flow in the blood system

In addition, bee putty contains a lot of vitamins and micro and macroelements such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, copper, phosphorus, chlorine, strontium and lithium, which must be supplied to the body as food.
The world-wide name for bee putty is propolis, which from the Greek means the city wall. It illustrates the basic property of the putty, namely it protects the body from the adverse effects of bacteria and microorganisms. Other advantages of using bee putty are:
- strengthening the immune system
- supporting the treatment of inflammatory conditions of internal organs
- prevents the formation of infections in the body
- has a positive effect on the nervous system
- It strengthens the mental and physical forces of a person, improves mental fitness
- helps to treat peptic ulcer and duodenal disease
- it improves eyesight and stimulates hair growth
- accelerates skin regeneration after mechanical injuries, burns and skin diseases (psoriasis)
- has a positive impact on overall health
Summary
