Fat Thursday, holidays, birthday, carnival party… a great time for getting away from daily problems, for social events, but also for culinary delights, not always fitting in our diet.
We have certain goals related to our body – spring is coming, then summer and we would like to present ourselves in the best possible form. We stick to our diet, dutifully exercise, achieve promising results and suddenly a stimulus appears on our way that convinces us to eat a donut, cake and chill out a bit. As long as we are able to control the quantities, such a one-off exception will not bring about any unbeneficial changes in our body (it may even help). The situation gets worse, when you really let your hair down and are trapped in a marathon of partying or snacking for several days.
Usually, however, there appears a moment of coming to senses and realizing that what you are doing is wrong. Low-quality food considerably increases the level of caloric intake and sooner or later it will make its impact.
What should we do in such a situation?
First of all – don’t panic and don’t take drastic steps. No starvation diets, three-day detox or additional hours of aerobes will bring particularly beneficial results and may only stress our organism out and make it even more difficult to get back on track.
Certainly we may gently lower our caloric supply to make our weekly balance adequate to the assumptions of our diet, but is shouldn’t be a starvation diet. Our organism needs energy, vitamins and minerals to be able to face physical effort and work that we expose it to.
A good solution would be simply drawing a line and starting another day over according to your diet. Even if your scale shows a bit more and your measurements increase by 1 cm, you should be aware that this is only subcutaneous water that will go away in a few days.
In the period of “getting back on track” you may increase a bit the amount of medium-mineralized water that you drink, as well as nettle or dandelion tea. In case of stomach problem it may also be mint (and light meals).
Such an event should make us think – are stress and worse mood stemming from such a dietary deviation worth it? As a rule we willingly go back to a healthy, balanced diet, appreciating the fact that we feel good following it. However, if we often feel the need to eat something from outside our dietary regime, we should make sure that our diet contains all the necessary macronutrients. Our organism very often lets us know what it needs, increasing our appetite for a given product.
