Methods of presenting the supplements composition on the label

Label review is the most important element in choosing the right supplements for you. In particular, the table of active ingredients should be carefully studied. It should be noted, however, that composition can be presented in different ways. It’s important to know them thoroughly to understand the information presented and to be able to accurately determine the quality of the supplement.

Let's take an example of supplements containing vitamins D3 and K2 MK7.

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is most often expressed in international units (IUs). A little less often you can meet with the presentation of the amount of this vitamin in mass units, i.e. in micrograms. Faced with this, it is very useful to know the conversion factor, which indicates that 1 mcg cholecalciferol is 40 IU.

The amount of vitamin D3 presented in the vitamin D3 shown in mcg.

A novelty used by manufacturers is to present information slightly wider, including the amount of raw material used to produce the supplement, in this case lanolin concentrate. Natural vitamin D3 is delivered by wholesalers in exactly the same form, which is very positive, since the handling of powder with pure, synthesized vitamin would be extremely problematic due to the government's value as micrograms. This would greatly increase the likelihood of large discrepancies between the vitamin content of the individual capsules, which is minimized using a standardized lanolin-specific concentrate for cholecalciferol.

In the above example we see the information about 50 mg in the capsule, which is the amount of lanolin used, containing 5000 IU of vitamin D3

A similar procedure is used in the case of vitamin K2 MK7, which could also cause problems with values of the order of 100 mcg. Therefore, Natto concentrate, a product derived from the natural fermentation of non-GMO soybeans in the presence of Bacillus subtilis, is used. In such concentration 2.5 mg mechachinone-7 is included per gram of raw material, so that in the 100 mcg capsule, 40 mg of concentrate should be used, as shown in the attached picture. This not only provides a natural source of vitamin , but also a more even distribution of substances in the individual capsules.

As you can see, honest producers are beginning to present a broader spectrum of information about the content of their supplements and methods of production. It’s important to choose brands that provide customers with such a broad amount of data.
