Mucuna Pruriens has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic and Unani medicine . It is an effective agent that works very well in a variety of situations, from infertility, Parkinson's disease, to the bite of poisonous snakes!
A few words about Mucuna Pruriens
Mucuna Pruriens is used in herbal medicines. It positively affects male fertility, libido, and also shows some actions in the field of alleviating the symptoms of nervous disorders. Traditionally, it is also used as an aphrodisiac. Mucuna Pruriens was already used in the ancient Hindu Ayurveda medicine system to support the treatment of infertility or neurological disorders. Recent research indicates that its effects can be confirmed scientifically.
Mucuna Pruriens and dopamine
Mucuna Pruriens is also known as velvet bean. M. Pruriens grows on trees coming from southern China and eastern India, but currently it can be found in various regions around the world. The reduction in the severity of Parkinson's symptoms is associated primarily with the content of L-DOPA in the mucoperis. In a study of 60 patients, a statistically significant decrease in Parkinson's disease symptoms was observed in patients treated with HP-200, a powder from Mucuna Pruriens , compared to the control group, treated with levodopa.
In another study, Mucuna Pruriens was as effective as levodopa but Mucuna Pruriens had a higher rate of absorption and peaked faster. These two studies indicate that Mucuna Pruriens , a natural source of L-Dopa , has an advantage over traditional sources of L-Dopa , levodopa , in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The antidepressant activity of the Mucuna Pruriens extract was tested using the forced swim test (FST) and the final suspension test (TST Suspension Test - TST). The MP extract significantly reduced immobilization time in FST and TST. These results indicate that the Mucuna Pruriens extract has antidepressant properties.
The study was conducted to determine the effect of Mucuna Pruriens on male infertility who were strongly influenced by psychological stress. 60 men were used to perform the procedure, selected on the basis of cortisol tests and questionnaires. Healthy, fertile men served as a control group. In infertile men, Mucuna Pruriens treatment significantly alleviated the symptoms of mental stress. The conclusion from this study is the following - Mucuna Pruriens helps to cope with stress (so far this effect was shown only in infertile men).
In infertile men, Mucuna Pruriens treatment significantly decreased the level of follicle - stimulating hormone and prolactin. High levels of prolactin can lead to pituitary tumors that can cause headaches, blindness and ED. Dopamine agonists such as bromocriptine are usually used to treat high levels of prolactin, but Mucuna Pruriens, which is also a dopamine agonist, appears to be potentially effective in treating mildly increased levels of prolactin.
MP extract is used by Nigerian doctors in the prevention (pre-treatment) of bites. A study in rats examined the protective effect of Mucuna Pruriens against toxicity to cobra venom. The heart of pre-treated (with Mucuna Pruriens) and untreated rats was tested after venom administration. It was found that prophylactic treatment with Mucuna Pruriens protects against heart snake venom. This suggests that MP may have therapeutic potential as a support for cardiovascular functions.
With what combine Mucuna Pruriens?
In the case of Parkinson's disease
In two studies that showed a reduction in the symptoms of Parkinson's disease after supplementation with Mucuna Pruriens, doses of 30 grams and 15 grams were used. Both of these doses were effective and did not cause serious side effects. We however recommend 5 grams a day taken with water.
In the case of infertility
It has been shown that 5g Mucuna Pruriens powder per day increases sperm motility, number and overall quality. Take with water.
