ALA (alpha-lipoic acid) is a vitamin-like substance, a metabolite of catecholamines with strong antioxidant properties, it enhances anti-free-radicals action of some vitamins (A and E). ALA is synthesized at low levels by the body. It is a component of such products as broccoli, yeast, chicken liver, spinach. In the medicine it is used in the prevention of diabetic neuropathy (tissues shows a sensitivity to the insulin hormone, and it stimulates blood sugar levels).
