Flavin mononucleotide (FMN) is an organic chemical compound, one of the most known representatives of flavins. In natural conditions, FMN is produced in the body from vitamin B2.

FMN is a component of many enzymes involved in the catalysis of many redox reactions, among others, dehydrogenation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADH) and activation of molecular oxygen. What is more, its presence is required for the normal course of processes in the cytoplasm, mitochondria and cell membranes.

FMN, like its derivatives, is used as a yellow food colouring, which is designated as E101a.

As a dietary supplement, FMN is used as a biologically active form of vitamin B2 – since it does not undergo conversion, it can perform its function immediately. Vitamin B2 is recommended to support the nervous and cardiovascular system. What is more, it has a beneficial impact on vision and improves energy production in the body.
