Oligofructose is a compound that dissolves dietary fibre in the organism. It is present in nature and can be found is bananas, onions, chicory root, asparagus, garlic, barley, wheat, and leek etc. In the food industry it is used as an alternative to sweeteners, it is in the composition i.e. dense or liquid yogurts, fermented beverages and other dairy products.
In our country, however, oligofructose is obtained mostly from chicory root. Its presence in the diet has a positive effect on the functioning of the body. First of all, as the fraction of dietary fibre, oligofructose stimulates the digestive system. In addition, it is stimulating the development of bifidobacteria found in the large intestine. It has an overall positive effect on the entire intestinal flora.
